DC Super Heroes: The Filmation Adventures

The Atom, Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Kid Flash, Speedy, Wonder Girl, Aqualad and the Man of Steel all turn up to battle intergalactic crime in this fun slice of nostalgia well served on disc.

Justice League: Season One

The Justice League looks even better in high def, even in their weakest season.

The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning

Disney’s latest, and for now last, direct to video project fails to capture the magic and heart of the original Little Mermaid, settling for a bland retread of pale highlights.

Bravestarr: Volume Two

The final Filmation show gets shorted on extras in this concluding volume, but with 32 episodes there’s still lots to occupy your time.

South Park: The Complete Eleventh Season

The boys are back in the Park for another riotous season that includes their adventures in Imaginationland. The set is overpriced and should be found as better deal online, but fans will be pleased that the show has lost nothing of its razor-sharp wit.

The Sword In The Stone: 45th Anniversary Edition

Disney’s take on young pre-King Arthur is a riotous comedy: one of the Studio’s most irreverent films, but this 45th Anniversary edition in no way builds on what has been released before.

The New Adventures Of The Lone Ranger And Zorro: Volume 2

Two masked icons of the American West stand up to the forces of oppression in this set of Filmation cartoons that finishes off their respective Saturday morning series.

The Chosen One

Some outrageous language and edgy situations might have boosted the lack of true wit on offer in this Flash-animated feature that struggles to have us invest in its characters or plot.

Freakazoid!: Season 1

Fricassee, freakazoo…Freakazoid! is back on our screens and this great two-disc set is a reminder of how groundbreaking, and plain zany and nuts, this animated comedy show really was!

Tiny Toon Adventures: Season 1, Volume 1

They’re tiny, they’re toony, and they’re back, on DVD! Still fresh, still funny, Warner does their little Looney Tunes proud in this four disc set.

Once Upon A Time…Walt Disney

This companion piece to the Artistic Sources Of The Disney Studios exhibition may fall short in a few minor areas, but otherwise it’s a must-have documentary that takes a serious look at Disney animation art. The addition of the silent Snow White is icing on the cake!

Teen Titans: The Complete Fifth Season

The final season of Teen Titans offers the most consistent tone, with only one real clunker (in addition to a misfire of a finale) marring what is otherwise an epic finish featuring the world’s teen heroes versus The Brotherhood Of Evil.

The Batman: The Complete Fifth Season

The final season of The Batman finds him becoming chummier with the Justice League.

The Astro Boy Essays

Finally, there is an English language book about Osamu Tezuka! This one has a narrow focus, but it’s a nice start, particularly for those who are most interested in his most famous creation.

Astro Boy (2003): The Complete Series

The newest version of Astro Boy is really very good, though Sony’s DVD presentation is a sad thing to behold.

Astro Boy (1980): The Collection Box Set

Tezuka’s influence is felt even stronger in Astro Boy’s second series.

Astro Boy (1963): Ultra Collector’s Edition Sets 1 & 2

The first anime hit gets an impressive pair of sets collecting the entirety of the English dubbed versions of the show.

Batman: Gotham Knight (Blu-ray/DVD)

The Dark Knight gets an anime makeover in this anthology of tales handled by some of Japan’s best studios. Like any anthology, the results are mixed, but overall these visions of Batman are compelling.

The Jungle Book 2: Special Edition

If you loved the original, here’s the story all over again, but this time in spiffy 21st Century-style animation!

The Richie Rich Scooby-Doo Show: Volume One

This set includes the weakest Scooby ever, but the Richie Rich stories are kind of cute.

WALL-E

Words fail to convey just how wonderfully unique WALL-E is.

He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe: Volume Two

This second volume of the 2002 version of the classic Mattel characters provides plenty of action, though only a couple of truly interesting episodes. However, BCI as usual does a great job of putting it all together in a package that collectors will love.

Bravestarr: The Movie

This cowboys-in-space film marked the beginning of the end for Filmation, but in fact it represents the best of what the studio could accomplish.

The Muppet Show: Season Three

1970s icons meet Muppet magic. More Henson greatness. Simple as that.

Kung Fu Panda

DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda is strong. Unlike some of their past efforts, this one is not even a little bit frightening.

Drawn Together – Uncensored! Season Three

How bad can this show get? Season Three found new ways to be filthy and disgusting. Some adults may find the show funny, but keep kids away from this one!

Sabrina, The Animated Series: Witch In Training

This spin-off of the live action sitcom is fairly mediocre, but is a decent show for kids, with good moral messages.

Sabrina, The Teenage Witch: The Complete Animated Series

The good little witch of Riverdale tries to help Archie and the gang with her magic, but things often backfire.

George Of The Jungle: The Complete Original Series

Jay Ward’s last great contribution to television cartoons is just as fun as ever. The Tarzan parody, along with other segments that include Super Chicken and Tom Slick, serves up more laughs than a season’s worth of many other programs.

Bee Movie: A Very Jerry 2-Disc Edition

Jerry Seinfeld’s DreamWorks collaboration is a fun and delightfully old-fashioned concoction, with the DVD packing in a mixture of top-notch bonuses and weaker material.
