Saturday Morning Cartoons – 1970s: Volume 2
More Saturday morning fun from Warner Bros.! There are few classics here, but lots of fondly remembered shows and a few obscure gems. |
Tinker Bell And The Lost Treasure
The second Tinker Bell movie improves on the first, with an adventurous tale that teaches lessons of responsibility and friendship. |
Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs
Though still pretty cool, the Ice Age franchise needs to come up with some new directions if it’s going to remain fresh, and although fair value, this Blu-ray and DVD combo features an odd mix of old and new material. |
Peanuts: 1970’s Collection Volume 1
Only six specials over two discs, but you can’t argue that most of them are pretty good. |
Cars: Ultimate Gift Pack
Pixar’s gleaming fender took an albeit minor dent with Cars, here driven around the block one more time with both original DVD and Blu-ray releases accompanied by McQueen and Mater model cars and gift set packaging. |
A Muppet Christmas: Letters To Santa
There’s little genuine Christmas cheer enclosed with these Letters, I’m very sorry to write, in this labored and unauthentic special, which is probably not destined to become a Christmas classic and where the old Muppets magic fails to sparkle. |
Wallace And Gromit: The Complete Collection
The charming British inventor-and-dog team get their best disc yet, including their newest effort, A Matter Of Loaf And Death. With only a couple of minor caveats, this is the best way to collect their adventures. |
Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving – 10th Anniversary Edition
This would-be-classic originally came out in 1999 on video and has recently been repackaged in a tenth anniversary edition along with a collectible Christmas stocking. |
Tom and Jerry’s Greatest Chases: Volume 3
The cartoons included on this set are some of the best in the cat and mouse duo’s career. They include several Academy Award nominated shorts spanning over one decade. |
Gigantor: The Collection, Volume Two
More giant robot action is always good, I suppose, but there’s more history than excitement in these primitive shows. |
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
This is a wild ride, though far from the best story to adapt from the comics. There are some nice extras on the disc, however. |
The Transformers: Season Two, Volume One (25th Anniversary Edition)
The second season of The Transformers continues the success of the show with new episodes featuring the continuing battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons. |
The Astonishing Work Of Tezuka Osamu
Art triumphs over commerce! Here are thirteen less commercial works from the creator of Astro Boy, each marvelous to behold. |
Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition
In short, Disney’s new Diamond Edition of Walt’s first boasts a beautifully clean new transfer, but for all the bells and whistles, the supplements are not the fairest in the land. |
X-Men: The Animated Series – Volume 4
The X-Men return with their fourth volume of stories from the show’s third and fourth seasons. |
X-Men: The Animated Series – Volume 3
The X-Men return with their third volume of stories from the show’s third and fourth seasons. |
Bedknobs And Broomsticks: Enchanted Musical Edition
Unfairly knocked for being a poor man’s Mary Poppins, this film has its own richness of magic. Though this is a lesser package than the previous DVD edition, it is still bound to please most who haven’t got the old DVD already in their collections. |
Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (Limited Edition with Plush)
Lumpy and Roo celebrate their first Halloween together in the Hundred Acre Woods. |
Warner Archive: The Our Gang Collection
Those original little rascals return in a delightfully nostalgic but exhaustive collection of all 52 of their MGM-produced Our Gang shorts! |
Disneynature: Earth
Disneynature’s first outing cribs its material from the BBC’s Planet Earth but provides an almost perfectly formed cut-down of events that will amaze newcomers to this footage. |
Disney Princess Enchanted Tales (with Bonus Disc)
This product line extension is back and should again be avoided by collectors, even if they’re tempted by a new, scantly packed and redundant bonus disc. |
Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: Season One, Vol. 3 – Hello Mummy
The Mystery, Inc. gang returns with 4 classic adventures from the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! show. |
Pete’s Dragon: High-Flying Edition
This tale of a boy and his dragon showed that the 1970s were not so bad for the Disney studio as many remember. The DVD shines with numerous fine bonus features. |
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero: Season 1.1
G.I. Joe is the code name for America’s daring, highly-trained, Special Mission force. Its purpose: To defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world. |
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 25th Anniversary Collector’s Edition
All four Turtles movies in one box, and although the first three films unfortunately miss out on extras, the set gains points with its collectible physical extras. |
Super Friends: The Lost Episodes
These episodes saw the last of ther Wonder Twins, and a lot of cheesy plots. But darned if I wasn’t entertained. |
Race To Witch Mountain
Disney’s modern update of its own 1975 thriller isn’t as shameless as it might have been, providing the same kind of thrills for today’s audience that the original did back in original release, but the discs are very poor in terms of supplements, making this Race a rental at best. |
Warner Archive: Doc Savage: The Man Of Bronze
Warner’s Archive Collection offers up overlooked and rarely seen movies, including the George Pal-produced tongue in cheek adventure Doc Savage: The Man Of Bronze. |
Warner Archive: Freebie And The Bean
Warner’s Archive Collection offers up overlooked and rarely seen movies, including the prototype cop-buddy comedy Freebie And The Bean. |
Warner Archive: Captain Nemo And The Underwater City
Warner’s Archive Collection offers up overlooked and rarely seen movies, including the exciting matinee style adventure Captain Nemo And The Underwater City. |
