Despite the current popularity of penguin movies, it seems one famous penguin cannot catch a break. The Business of Animation blog speculates that a film starring the Berkeley Breathed comic character Opus appears to be dead once again. The project had been set up at The Weinstein Co.

Despite claims that Arthur and the Invisibles was to be his final project, director Luc Besson may change his mind on retiring, should the film be a success. According to Production Weekly, Besson is already considering an adaptation of the book Arthur and the Forbidden City, with production beginning as early as next June.

Roy Disney to give autographs, take questions in LA today!

This evening at 7 p.m., Roy Disney will be appearing in the Barnes & Noble Booksellers of The Grove at Farmers Market, located at 189 Grove Drive, Suite K 30, Los Angeles, CA 90036. The Hollywood Reporter reports that after almost ten years as film division president of Rhythm & Hues, Richard Hollander is joining Pixar as a producer. Taking Hollander’s former position will be Lee Berger, the current senior executive in charge of feature film production at Rhythm & Hues.

Disney to lay off 160 animators

Walt Disney Feature Animation will soon lay off 160 animators, which is equal to approximately 20% of its total staff, writes Variety. Those animators directly affected by this move will be notified within the next couple of weeks. The staff reduction arrives as production is completed on Feature Animation’s latest film, Meet the Robinsons.
