USA Today writes of the latest trend in the viewing habits of kids: adult cartoons. Family Guy, for instance, has taken the No. 5 position among kids ages 2-11, averaging 900,000 viewers in that age group, according to Nielsen Media Research. Says David Goodman, executive producer of Family Guy, “I think it’s absolutely for adults,” he says. “I don’t let my kids watch it. They’re 8 and 6. We’re doing a show for us (the 14 writers). Most are over 30, a few over 40, but we all remember what we found funny.” Meanwhile, Family Guy made the cut for the Parents Television Council’s “Worst TV shows” 2005 list. Of course, Family Guy is not the only adult cartoon garnering attetion by a younger crowd. Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim was the No. 5 cable network among ages 2-11, during the spring.
The article also mentions that The Ren & Stimpy Show will begin airing again on Nickelodeon, starting July 31, at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 PT.
