Sponge Out of Water, Spongebob SquarePant’s second feature film and the first since the 2004 original, opens today in 3,641 theatres according to Box Office Mojo. The film is doing well with the critics earning a respectable 73% on the Tomatometer. Their consensus is “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water won’t win over many viewers who aren’t fans of the show, but for the converted, it’s another colorful burst of manic fun.” BOM projects a first place finish this weekend with $41 million.
