Count Dracula proved that he still has plenty of life left in him at the box office…at least when he’s voiced by Adam Sandler in a PG-rated animated family comedy. Hotel Transylvania, the new comedy from Sony Pictures Animation, saw the greatest opening weekend for September ever with a debut of $42 million, taking the record from the Reese Whiterspoon rom com Sweet Home Alabama, which had held the crown for 10 years. Although Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie comes out on Friday, Hotel Transylvania is expected to see solid legs for the next few weeks, especially with Halloween coming.
