Hayao Miyazaki recently tweeted about how he sees a strong decline in Japanese animation because only women are applying for animator positions. He quickly responded with a five-part tweet to clarify his opinion, but it still leaves room for questions. Despite the hopeful messages in his movies, Miyazaki appears to be a have a pessimistic outlook on life. Does this correlate with that? Another thing to consider are the differences between Japanese and Western societies in their viewpoint on women. Translation problems are another matter too.
