About Wait Till Your Father Gets Home

Before Family Guy and The Simpsons there was the satirical show from Hanna-Barbera, Wait Till Your Father Gets Home, in which a conservative father butts heads with his family on various social attitudes of the day. Businessman Harry Boyle owns a restaurant supply company and has a son, 22 year-old college dropout Chet, and a daughter Alice, a rather robust 16-year-old who teams up with her mother to display the independence of women in the 70’s. Chet is a hippie who spends most of his time sleeping and Alice is sexually liberated. Harry’s youngest son is Jamie, the Capitalist of the family, even though he is only 9. Jamie is an ally, but Harry’s wife Irma, the typical housewife, with an occasional independent flare, is a neutral in the ongoing war. Their neighbor, Ralph, insists on preparing them for the oncoming takeover by the Communists…

Tech Specs: 24 episodes on four discs, Animation for the Nation retrospective featurette, Illustrating the Times: how the show’s illustration and animation styles perfectly captured its era.
