As promised, and just scraping in by the end of the week, is my take on the DVD of Sony’s first animated feature offering, Open Season: Special Edition, here being reviewed in its correct widescreen version. I won’t say much more here, but briefly I found it to be a schizophrenic movie that wasn’t the heart-warming family comedy it thinks it is or the outrageously crude one it really wants to be. Better luck next time, and their second attempt, the penguin comedy documentary Surf’s Up at least looks like it’s being marketed more appropriately.

I’m afraid it’s a quick update today, but before I sign off, I just wanted to mention that Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has just signed on the dotted line to portray the boy wizard for the next two films, taking him – and us – through to the end of the series. Good news for those who were worried that we might have faced a different Harry for the final films! Original director Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two movies, is rumored to be considering coming back to shoot at least one (the finale?) or both back-to-back. Let’s hope he can keep up the darker tone the films have taken on as Harry’s journey becomes more tinged with danger. The final book, The Deathly Hallows, is of course set for publication this summer alongside the release of the fifth film, The Order Of The Phoenix, in July.

Have a great weekend! – Ben.
