We’ve an exciting post for you today as Randall checks in with a full review on Super Friends – The Legendary Super Powers Show: The Complete Series – phew, that’s a mouthful! As a comics nut, Rand likes the show itself, of course, but really saves his enthusiasm to say some good words about the set’s supplemental features, calling them “the best that Warner has done so far when it comes to Super Friends, this one brings a couple of substantial featurettes that are actually about the making of the show. With a string of five audio commentaries by DC Comics historian Mark Waid and each story’s respective writer, this is in some ways the best Super Friends package out there”. While Rand does point out that there are only eight episodes in this season, he adds that “if you’re like me you’ll just take the easy way and collect it all”. Go get ’em tiger!
Of course today is also a big collector’s day for classic animation fans: The Jungle Book‘s 2-disc Platinum Edition is now available (and at half price through our Amazon link)! While I’ll no doubt be moaning about the lack of the original negative ratio presentation and the fact that region 2 gets a lavish, store exclusive gift set like the Lion King, Aladdin and Cinderella packages of before in my upcoming review, I must say that the supplements themselves look a lot healthier than recent Platinum fare, which seem to have taken a major dip in quality since Bambi a couple of years ago. As the premium-line Disney series, I’m still at a loss at how inconsistent, poorly packaged and downright lazy some of these so called prestigious releases have actually been, but I have high hopes for what was Walt’s last personally produced picture. Go get ’em, tigers, and I’m not talking about Shere Kahn!
Stay tooned! – Ben.
