CGCHAR Animation presents more details about Space Chimps, an upcoming venture from IDT Entertainment and Vanguard Animation. At a planned running time of 80 minutes, the film will tell the story of “Ham, the grandson of the first chimp in space, who has all the wrong stuff, who’s teamed up with Lucy, a buttoned-up Ms. Right Stuff.” Producer John H. Williams explains, “It becomes like African Queen, or It Happened One Night or Romancing the Stone where it’s those guys who are thrown together and who resent each other dramatically but end up being the perfect couple too.” While no casting decisions have yet been made, the article confirms that popular comedic actors are being sought, in an effort to make Space Chimps “wildly original.” In the meantime, Williams hopes that the movie will be successful enough to merit a sequel.
