The Disney Database points to Magical Mountain, a site which explains what is currently going on with the anticipated Tarzan Broadway musical. Currently, the show is scheduled to open sometime in the 2005-2006 season. Directed and designed by Bob Crowley, Tarzan is being choreographed by Meryl Tankard, with associate direction coming from Jeff Lee. Returning to the subject matter that helped win him an Academy Award in 2000, Phil Collins has written the songs for the musical. Moreover, Tarzan is not only being adapted from the animated film’s screenplay by Tab Murphy, Bob Tzudiker, and Noni White, but from the original Edgar Rice Burroughs novel Tarzan of the Apes as well. At the moment, casting is being done for the production, as a “Tarzan” is being searched for who is “physically lean but toned, a swimmer’s body — NOT a muscle man”.
In related news, Jim Hill takes a look at Tarzan II and likes what he sees. He also notes in his review that the movie’s two new songs, coming from Phil Collins, are rumored to be in the upcoming Tarzan Broadway show. Meanwhile, also at Jim Hill Media, Andrew Crim writes an interesting article that explains why Michael Eisner failed to arrange a new deal with Pixar for Disney, and why Bob Iger, the Mouse House’s next CEO, possibly should not sign a new deal either.
