Famed English adventurer Rupert The Bear is coming back home, with the issue of Paul McCartney’s Rupert And The Frog Song, the first time the little bear was animated on film, and a theatrically released short that played with McCartney’s Give My Regards To Broad Street movie from 1984. The Rupert featurette, previously only available on an out of print VHS tape and a now very rare LaserDisc edition (as seen on the right), makes up one of three animated stories in a new Miramax DVD, due on April 13th, the others being the previously little seen Tropic Island Hum and Tuesday. Rupert And The Frog Song features some wonderfully lush animation (back in the day when it was all hand drawn and colored), as well as the hit song We All Stand Together, sung by an unforgettable chorus of frogs. Animated Bliss has the full press release, which states a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer and extras including new interviews and line tests. Although the $29.99 list price may seem a little costly for only a 43 minute program, it sounds like it will be worth it!
Rupert coming home again!
