On the eve of The Incredibles’ opening, websites begin to weigh in as to how much punch the Pixar flick will pack. Both Box Office Guru and Lee’s Movie Info believe The Incredibles will make around $70 million on its opening weekend, with the latter site suggesting a more detailed prediction of $71.1 million. However, a surprising prediction comes from IMDB, which does make an interesting point nonetheless. Going against such films in the same genre as The Polar Express, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, and Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events in the upcoming weeks, The Incredibles may find itself receiving a somewhat disappointing box office reaction of $225 million domestically and close to $500 million worldwide- not bad, but not as good as previously expected. Still, one should recall that Monsters, Inc. grossed nearly $256 million domestically and $528.93 million worldwide, despite going up against Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, when the Potter franchise was at the peak of its popularity. In addition, the Pixar and Disney names attached to The Incredibles definitely will not hurt the movie’s gross. Time will tell how incredible The Incredibles really is. Flying into more than 3,700 theaters, The Incredibles will open nationwide tomorrow, with select theaters playing the film at midnight tonight.
