MTV.com’s “Splash Page” reports that Cartoon Network will air a new Thundercats series in 2011.

The new series, to be produced by Warner Bros. Animation in conjunction with the famous Japanese studio Studio4°C (The Animatrix, Batman: Gotham Knight), will be WBA’s first series to be made in an anime style.

The original Thundercats series (which ran for five seasons from 1985 to 1990) was produced by Rankin/Bass Productions in conjunction with Pacific Animation Corporation (a collective of Japanese studios including Topcraft, which would later become Studio Ghibli) for Telepictures Productions (later Lorimar-Telepictures), then was purchased by Warner Bros. in 1988.
