The Muppets movie gets a release date

Cinema Blend reports that Disney’s upcoming The Muppets movie has officially been given a December 25, 2011 release date. Written by Jason Segel and directed by James Bobin, The Muppets movie will also star Segel alongside Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Animal and the rest of the characters.

Note from Pete Docter to a fan

Collider shares a handwritten note by Pete Docter in response to a fan. In his letter dated October 2008, Docter doodles himself alongside Monsters Inc. characters Mike, Sully, and Boo, and explains how “Pixar films don’t get finished, they just get released.”

Nicktoons to relaunch Voltron

Variety reports that Nicktoons will air 26 half-hour episodes of Voltron Force starting next year. With the relaunch of the massive robot from 1980s, rights holders World Event Prods and Classic Media would attempt to reintroduce Voltron: Defender of the Universe to a new generation.

Lucasfilm ramping up “secret CGI feature” project

In an interview with Lucasfilm Singapore’s recruiter Heather Brown, Animation Express reveals that Lucasfilm Animation is working on a “top-secret” CGI feature. Brown also speaks about the other recent achievements for the facility, which contributed almost 200 ILM effects shots to Iron Man 2.

New Video has announced that they have acquired U.S. television, digital, VOD and home video distribution rights to the Oscar nominated animated film The Secret of Kells and will be bringing it to most of those platforms (including DVD and Blu-ray) on October 5th, 2010.

Gary Oldman joins the voice cast of Kung Fu Panda sequel
