Cinema Blend reports that Disney’s upcoming The Muppets movie has officially been given a December 25, 2011 release date. Written by Jason Segel and directed by James Bobin, The Muppets movie will also star Segel alongside Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Animal and the rest of the characters.

Collider shares a handwritten note by Pete Docter in response to a fan. In his letter dated October 2008, Docter doodles himself alongside Monsters Inc. characters Mike, Sully, and Boo, and explains how “Pixar films don’t get finished, they just get released.”

/Film shares video footage from the sets of The Smurfs featuring Hank Azaria as Gargamel and Neil Patrick Harris in New York City. Sony Pictures Animation’s big screen CGI/live action adaptation of The Smurfs is slated to hit theatres on August 3, 2011.

In an interview with Lucasfilm Singapore’s recruiter Heather Brown, Animation Express reveals that Lucasfilm Animation is working on a “top-secret” CGI feature. Brown also speaks about the other recent achievements for the facility, which contributed almost 200 ILM effects shots to Iron Man 2.
