Venice to premiere Toy Story in 3-D

Variety reports that the 3-D versions of Pixar’s Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will premiere at the 66th Venice Film Festival in September marking the festival’s lifetime award to John Lasseter and the Pixar directors. The Venice film festival will run September 2-12.

Up receives PG rating

Pixar’s forthcoming feature Up has received a PG rating by Motion Picture Association of America. The official Up website displays the PG rating for “Some Peril and Action.” Up is the second Pixar film after The Incredibles to receive the PG rating.

Ghibli to open training studio in Japan

Variety reports that Studio Ghibli, the Japanese studio behind Hayao Miyazaki hits Spirited Away and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, is collaborating with automaker Toyota to open a new training studio. The studio will be situated in Toyota’s R&D center in Aichi Prefecture in western Japan.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. has acquired screen rights to The Lonely Dog, a limited-edition book of paintings done by Queenstown artist Ivan Clarke. Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster will produce the CG animated dog tale through Goldsman’s WB based Weed Road banner.
