Seeing the second best Pixar opening of all time, Monsters University easily topped the box office this weekend, ComingSoon.Net is reporting. The only one of the studio’s films to top its $82 million debut was Toy Story 3 back in 2010. In other box office news, Man of Steel saw a slightly bigger than expected drop–largely thanks to the surprise success of Brad Pitt’s zombie thriller World War Z–, but the superhero film has still managed to beat the entire domestic gross of Superman Returns in just 10 days. Monsters should have at least one more strong weekend left in it, but it will face competition for its target audience in a big way when Despicable Me 2 opens on July 3rd.
