Despite a slew of animated titles hitting stores this month, one smaller animated film has found an audience thanks to Redbox kiosks: The Legend of Kung Fu Rabbit. If the title looks suspiciously similar to Kung Fu Panda, so does the film’s trailer and synopsis. The film also borrows actor Michael Clarke Duncan, who joins Jon Heder, Tom Arnold, and Rebecca Black of viral music video Friday fame. Rabbit is actually the 2011 Chinese flick Tu Xia Chuan Qi, or Legend of a Rabbit, which Lionsgate repackaged to appeal to Kung Fu Panda fans. The strategy has worked for the time being, as Rabbit currently sits at #6 on Redbox’s Family Top 20. But with a 2/5 viewer rating, the film might need a lucky rabbit’s foot to have strong legs on the chart.
