Columbia/ImageWorks’ The Angry Birds Movie opens today in 3,932 theatres, according to Box Office Mojo. The film is splitting the critics, earning a 45% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Their consensus: “The Angry Birds Movie is substantially more entertaining than any film adapted from an app has any right to be — which may or may not be much of an endorsement”. BOM predicts it will win the weekend, beat studio estimates, and finish on top of Captain America with $43.69 million. Box Office Prophets has a different take, projecting that Angry Birds will finish in second place with $40.1 million, still ahead of Captain America but behind Neighbors 2.
