Outperforming virtually all predictions, Sausage Party surprised by topping the box office yesterday, Box Office Mojo is reporting. The (very) R-rated comedy barely took the crown from Suicide Squad, which is still expected to win the weekend when all is said and done. In other news, Disney’s non-musical Pete’s Dragon remake opened to a decent but not spectacular third place with a take of almost $7 million. Both Pete’s Dragon and Sausage Party were a hit with critics, earning certified “fresh” rating at Rotten Tomatoes.
