Disney’s Moana got off to a strong start on Wednesday, scoring the best opening day before Thanksgiving of all time with $15.6 million, Box Office Mojo is reporting. The previous record holder was Frozen when it opened in 2013, but that film also dealt with extreme competition from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Thanksgiving day was also good to Disney’s newest princess, as Moana topped the day with a strong $9.9 million. The movie is expected to make an additional $50 million (or more) over the three-day weekend.
