20th Century Fox’s Walking With Dinosaurs opens today in theaters nationwide, albeit with respectively less fanfare than The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Saving Mr. Banks. The adaptation of the BBC miniseries–which was also adapted into a well-received stage show–hasn’t been faring well with critics, scoring a “freshness” rating of only 24% on Rotten Tomatoes. One thing reviews in particular criticize is the “talking” dinosaurs, who supposedly were originally meant to remain silent in the film before Justin Long and John Leguizamo were cast in leading roles. Box Office Prophets is predicting a soft opening of $7 million.
