io9 has a “retro movie review” of Titan A.E., the Twentieth Century Fox film released in 2000 and directed by Don Bluth. With the popularity of later gritty space operas like Battlestar Galactica and Firefly, the reviewer believes the property is rife for a reboot in theatres or as a TV show. With a story by three writers still going strong today in scifi and animated offerings (Joss Whedon of The Avengers, Ben Edlund of Supernatural, and John August of Frankenweenie) it has the pedigree Hollywood executives love. With a huge scope, classic scifi storytelling, and “Whedon funny” dialogue, io9 concludes that “Titan A.E. is far above most of the science fiction that’s come out in the last ten years”.
Titan A.E. an underappreciated masterpiece?
