It’s not April 1st, so we know this is an actual movie. Deadline is reporting that The Flintstones are set to meet up with WWE wrestlers in an upcoming animated film, with at least three WWE stars playing “themselves.” Vince McMahon will play Vince McMagma, John Cena will play John Cenastone, and CM Punk will be CM Punkrock. The “plot” of the movie will involve a prehistoric wrestling event. “WWE is family-friendly entertainment, so partnering with Warner Bros on a Flintstones/WWE project was a natural extension of our Scooby Doo deal,” president Michael Luisi of WWE Studios said in a statement that immediately put to rest any arguments that might be made against the project. He went on to add that “this new, animated feature allows us to showcase our brand with young fans and loyal Flintstones enthusiasts alike,” which will no doubt be very reassuring to the ears of Flintstones fans everywhere who normally would’ve been quick to blindly label this as a shameless cashgrab.
