Academy Award nominee Bill Plympton has taken his upcoming animated feature film, Cheatin’, to Kickstarter. The crowdfunding website allows artists, inventors, and others to reach out to fans and potential buyers to fund their projects upfront, rather than having to go through investors, banks, or studios. The project is only half way to its deadline but has already reached its “bare minimum” goal and is now hoping to reach its stretch goal to pay for other things needed for a successful film. According to Plympton, Cheatin’ will be “an animated adult tale of love, jealousy, revenge, and murder – full of nudity and violence, but also with my surreal sense of humor. The story is inspired by the work of James M. Cain (Double Indemnity, The Postman Always Rings Twice)”. A production blog is available to everyone. Backers get extra benefits.
