A lawsuit against DreamWorks claiming they stole the ideas for Kung Fu Panda can proceed to a possible trial a judge ruled this week, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “The judge’s decision potentially sets the stage for an uncommon occurrence in Hollywood: a trial concerning a major studio in which a jury would determine whether the plaintiff’s work was stolen or the studio independently created its hit film”. The plaintiff claims he came up with stories about a kung fu fighting giant panda, a red panda sidekick, and a group called the “Five Fists of Fury” (consisting of a tiger, crane, mantis, monkey and snake) back in the 1990s.
