Disney has acquired the North American theatrical distribution rights to Hayao Miyazaki’s newest feature film, The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu), reports Blu-ray. The film follows the life of Jiro Horikoshi, from his ambitious childhood to adulthood as he creates an elegant, flight worthy plane that eventually is used for something quite different than he expected- war. The Wind Rises has been a big box-office success in Japan earning more than US $80 million since its debut last month, though not without stirring a few controversies. The film will compete at the Venice International Film Festival and will also be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival in September.
