The Wrap notes that Despicable Me 2 opened in Australia this weekend where it did 38% better than the first film and was Illumination’s best debut down under. The film had early previews in the UK and Ireland, and ended up #1 at the box office on Saturday, beating both World War Z and Man of Steel.
Star Steve Carell gave an in-depth interview to Collider about the film with topics including “reprising the role, how he first found the voice for Gru, and why he’s happy with the evolution of the story and characters and the way the film celebrates a family’s love and commitment… what he’d have Minions do for him in real life, why edible guacamole sombreros are bound to be a big hit this summer, [and] the interview he did in character on The Ellen DeGeneres Show”.
