Universal used this year’s CinemaCon to screen about 15 minutes of Despicable Me 2. Peter Sciretta of SlashFilm.com and Alex Billington of FirstShowing.net discuss the footage, which included a look at the purple, evil Minions. While Sciretta enjoyed the Minions, he was less impressed by the more emotional scenes shown. “One thing that worries me is it seems like they’re trying to cram this romance for Gru in this one and trying to give the girls a mother. And that seemed a little forced to me,” he explains. Billington responded, “I agree with you, but I think that the family aspect of it is where the heart comes from.” Audiences can judge for themselves when Despicable Me 2 hits theaters on July 3.
