The spinach-eating, fist-throwing sailor is making a comeback. ComingSoon.net is reporting that Sony Pictures Animation is planning to make an animated movie based on the old cartoon character, with Smurfs writers Jay Scherick and David Ronn penning the script. “Popeye has been my childhood favorite character,” said Spider-Manmovie producer Avi Arad. “To me he was always the everyday man who gets special powers and actually becomes the first superhero in the best meaning of the word.” This won’t be the first time that Popeye has had a movie. He was also the star of a 1980s live-action movie starring Robin Williams and Shelly Duvall.
