Opening slightly below some expectations, the live-action/animated Paul opened to a decent $13.2 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The R-rated comedy–which features Seth Rogen as the voice of an animated alien who meets up with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost after escaping from Area 51–carried a reported price tag of $40 million, something that it should probably be able to make back once DVD sales are brought into play. In other animated news, Paramount’s Rango continued to perform strongly, and now has a total of $92 million. And Disney’s now infamous Mars Needs Moms actually showed pretty good legs, dropping less than 25% for a weekend take of $5.3 million.
