The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is very busy lately. The recently banned performance capture animation (a technique pioneered by Robert Zemeckis with The Polar Express) from the nomination ballot. The changed the rules again to increase the number of animated films available for nomination each year based on how many are released. They also decided to make the category permanent, meaning the board won’t vote each year to include animated movies in the oscar running. More from the LA Times.
