Cartoon Brew reports that Studio Ghibli’s 2006 film Tales from Earthsea will finally receive a North American release on August 13th, 2010.
The film, directed by Goro Miyazaki (son of Studio Ghibli co-founder and Academy Award-winner Hayao Miyazaki), is based on the first, third and fourth (A Wizard of Earthsea, The Farthest Shore, and Tehanu) books in American author Ursula K. LeGuin’s Earthsea series.
The release in North America was delayed due to a no-compete clause in the contracts for the Sci-Fi Channel miniseries Legend of Earthsea, which premiered in 2005.
Cast members in the English-dubbed version include Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), Willem Dafoe (Spider-man 1-3), Cheech Marin (Oliver & Company, The Lion King) and Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill).
The release will be handled by Disney through its revived Touchstone Pictures banner.
