With 20th Century Fox pleased with its recent forays into “live-action” editions of some fondly remembered animated characters (Garfield, Alvin And The Chipmunks, etc) the studio is set to continue the trend by updating the classic Brad Anderson strip Marmaduke for the big screen. The Hollywood Reporter states that director Tom Dey has signed up to develop the picture, but that it hasn’t been decided on whether the mutt, who also appeared as an animated canine in episodes of Heathcliff & Marmaduke in the 1980s, would be animated or live-action. Fox is obviously attracted to animated animal projects, with We Bought A Zoo and the Farrelly Brothers’ delightfully named Walter The Farting Dog also in development.
