Newsarama has an interesting feature on Gary H. Lee, a DreamWorks employee who is currently head of layout for Kung Fu Panda 2. In his free time (in between working on Over The Hedge, Kung Fu Panda, and Monsters vs. Aliens) Lee has been working on his own project. The result is a live action/CGI hybrid short called Hector Corp. How does his current employer feel about his off the clock project? According to Lee, “DreamWorks has been really, really supportive. My actual premiere was at DreamWorks. It was an actual lunch screening. Then for a lot of people who didn’t work at DreamWorks, they arranged for me to have an evening screening… DreamWorks has been helping me get to a lot of film festivals. Now I’m learning that process. Right now I got into DragonCon in Atlanta. I also got into one in Rhode Island, the International Film Festival and that’s an Academy Award qualifying one.” You can get a look at the short’s trailer online.
