Kung Fu Panda dropped only 50% yesterday to gross an estimated $10M Friday from an expanded theater count of 4,136 en route for a strong $35M weekend. Nikki Finke warns that Saturday matinees will need to be big for the animated film to grab the #2 spot since M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening performed much better than expected. Good news regardless is that Panda has been playing more like a four-quadrant tentpole than a kiddie toon and a $120M 10-day gross would make for the fourth-best one for an animated non-sequel behind only Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Monster’s Inc according to Fantasy Moguls.
