The New York Times reports that Sylvain Chomet, director of The Triplets of Belleville, is upset that his work for The Tale Of Despereaux is not being acknowledged by Universal Studios. Chomet, who claims to be responsible for many of the visuals and concepts of the film, was the director Despereaux for two years before being replaced. He complains that he is not being credited for his contributions to the movie, stating “We’re making a film for kids, a film that has a moral, and behind it is such aggressive action about lawyers and legal things — there are no human relationships. I felt like a lemon; they got the juice out of me and threw me away.” The Tale of Despereaux, which features a release date of December 19th, is based on the children’s book of the same name by Kate DiCamillo. Chomet is currently working on The Illusionist, his traditionally animated film.
