The Oregonian spotlights Dennis Nyback, an animation enthusiast with a passion to show folks exactly why he loves cartoons. Last Friday, February 16, saw the beginning of his Cartoon Extravaganza at Disjecta on East Burnside in Portland, Oregon. The event demonstrates 21 days and nights of animation. “Over the course of three weeks, the archivist will dip into his collection of 5,000 films and present classic works by Winsor McCay (Gertie the Dinosaur); Otto Messmer (Felix the Cat); Ub Iwerks; Walter Lantz (Woody Woodpecker); Ladislas Starevitch, the legendary Russian master of stop-action animation; and Tex Avery.
