o-meon reports the sad news that Disney animator/director Art Stevens passed away last May 22 due to a heart attack. Stevens began work at Disney in 1940 and worked on animated features such as Fantasia, Song of the South, The Three Caballeros, the Winnie the Pooh shorts and more. He helped Ward Kimball out with the Man in Space series in the 1950’s (said by Art to have been his favorite assignment at Disney) and received praise from Milt Kahl for his work on the underwater sequence in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Art later co-directed The Fox and the Hound before retiring after doing some pre-production work on The Black Cauldron.
