The American Film Institute has announced the official selections for their annual AFI Awards. This year, Disney/Pixar’s Ratatouille was named one of the top films of the year. Unlike other award giving organizations the AFI awards are judged based on the “creative ensembles as a whole – those both in front of and behind the camera” – who “create the year’s outstanding movies… all of which best advanced the art of the moving image; enhanced the rich cultural heritage of America’s art form; inspired audiences and artists alike; and/or made a mark on American society.” This is the third time since the award’s conception in 2000 that a Pixar film has won this award (Finding Nemo, 2003; The Incredibles, 2004).
