Last October, it was revealed that Happy Feet would rendezvous with IMAX 3D this November. However, the film is no longer scheduled for that particular release, says Warner Bros. Pictures via Coming Soon. While no announcement has been made regarding the reason for this move, the site comments that the conversion process of 2D to 3D could have added around $10 million to the movie’s already sizable budget. Nonetheless, Happy Feet will still open in IMAX 2D and regular theaters on November 17th.

UPDATE! The reason Happy Feet will not be released in IMAX 3D this November is revealed as such by Warren Betts of ZoomWerks, which represents IMAX: “There was not enough time to make the conversion to 3D by [the] release date…” However, Warner Bros. has suggested Feet could open in IMAX 3D at a later time. “Unfortunately, to release it (concurrently in IMAX and conventional theaters) it had to be in 2D, and we’re exploring a subsequent release in 3D,” Rich Gelfond, IMAX co-chairman and co-CEO said. “We remain really excited about this movie.”

A spokeswoman for Warner Bros. Pictures, a unit of Time Warner Inc. (TWX), said time constraints didn’t allow for a simultaneous release of the film in 2D and 3D, but noted that a 3D release of the film, about a tap-dancing penguin, was still in the cards at some point.
