The St. Paul Pioneer Press looks at the “See Jane” program, which involves a study of male and female characters in G-rated films. Conducted by the Annenberg School for Communications at the University of Southern California, the report found female main characters to be lacking by a 2 to 3 margin, when compared to male main characters. One notable exception, as the article points out, comes through Mulan, Disney’s 1998 animated feature.
