At the age of 85, Shelley Winters died early Saturday, due to heart failure. At the time of her death, Winters was located at The Rehabilitation Centre of Beverly Hills, according to her publicist Dale Olson. This followed her hospitalization last October, which she received after suffering a heart attack.
During her career, Winters was nominated for an Academy Award four times. With A Place in the Sun, she acquired her first nomination, for “Best Actress in a Leading Role.” Later, the actress collected “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” nominations for her work in The Diary of Anne Frank, A Patch of Blue, and The Poseidon Adventure, obtaining Oscars for Anne Frank and Blue. Winters’ animated work included her voicing Crystal, the wife of Frosty the Snowman, in the Rankin/Bass treasures Frosty’s Winter Wonderland (1976) and Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July (1979). In-between those films, the actress acted in the Disney classic Pete’s Dragon (1977), as Lena Gogan.
