At the age of 71, Peter Boyle died Tuesday evening, at New York Presbyterian Hospital. His death came as the result of multiple myeloma and heart disease. Boyle was arguably best known for his Emmy-winning role as father Frank Barone in the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond (1996-2005). Earlier, the actor’s popularity had risen due to his turn as “The Monster” in Young Frankenstein (1974). Likewise, Boyle found himself in all three Santa Clause hits, playing Mr. Whittle in the first film (1994) and Father Time in its two sequels (2002, 2006). In the meantime, animation enthusiasts may recall Boyle’s appearance as Old Man Wickles in Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004).
