The Los Angeles Times, via Toon Zone, indicates that Mary Sklar is resigning from his post as principal creative executive of Walt Disney Imagineering. At the age of 72, Sklar had the pleasure of working closely with Walt Disney himself. He had planned to retire following “two milestones”: Disneyland’s 50th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of his service to the company. The first of those milestones was reached last year, while the latter one will hit in June. Disney officials remarked that Sklar’s stepping down was unrelated to the recent entrance of John Lasseter into the company. Nonetheless, Sklar will remain with Disney, in order to “recruit new talent, develop traveling exhibitions about the Imagineers and pass on Walt’s ideas to a new generation.”
