Doug Cooper, Visual Effects Supervisor and 10 year veteran of DreamWorks Animation, will moderate a panel at this year’s Game Developers Conference that discusses the collaboration between film and game companies in the production of games based on licensed film properties. Cooper has brought together industry experts from Activision, DreamWorks, Electronic Arts, LucasArts, and Ubisoft to discuss several games based on film properties, including King Kong, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Batman Begins, Shrek, Madagascar, and others.
The panelists will be discussing the unique challenges and opportunities afforded by close collaboration between film studios and visual effects facilities, as well as game publishers and developers, to make the best of a license opportunity. The key points in building a good relationship, as well as the multitude of management and approval hurdles that must be navigated, will be explored. A discussion of the impact of next generation hardware, and the integration of film and game pipelines will round out the panel.
The panel, “Big Screen to Game Console: Case Studios,” is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose, CA.
