As Video Business states, “20th Century Fox Home Entertainment may be the last major distributor to announce titles in high-definition, but it’s making up for it by bringing Ice Age: The Meltdown to Blu-Ray Disc at the same time as the standard-definition DVD on November 21″. With a $195 million box-office gross, the Scrat-starring sequel is the biggest first-run title to be announced for any high-def format, and the first big studio animated title to be released. Bonus features for the new Ice Age disc have yet to be revealed, but already there is talk that the standard DVD edition may not be as featured packed as the 2-disc set that will debut around the world, which has led to speculation that Fox may be holding back some “exclusives” for the high-def release, or indeed that a “double-dip” on the standard definition version may also be due for reissue early next year, as has been Fox’s policy in the past on high-grossing titles. The only other major animation title scheduled for Blu-Ray so far is Disney’s 2000 catalog release of Dinosaur, on September 19.
