According to Premiere Magazine‘s list of “The 20 Most Overrated Movies of All Time,” Walt Disney’s Fantasia does not live up to the hype animation fans have granted it. The article writes, “This film is a mishmash of pedantic narration and erratic tone… and, frankly, some of the animated sequences now seem dangerously akin to screensavers.” Fortunately, a rebuttal in favor of Fantasia is also noted, stating, “When you invent a form… being a bit abstract is part of the deal. The genius of Disney animation in 1940 is still sublime and sometimes terrifying, and it set a standard that today’s artists still clearly yearn to attain.”
