Two actors who counted parts in a pair of Disney films among their prolific careers have passed away. Red Buttons, the famed song-and-dance comedian, was perhaps best known to animation fans as villain Jim Dale’s sidekick in 1977’s Pete’s Dragon and as the voice of Robespierre in Chuck Jones’ 1962 feature Gay Purr-ee, while Barnard Hughes had a notable secondary role in 1982’s Tron as well as featuring in Touchstone’s popular series Blossom from 1990 to 1995. Both will be missed for the level of fun and familiarity they brought to the screen as character actors in a strong line up of both comic and dramatic film and television roles.
